TOM PETTYHYPNOTIC EYE

Hypnotic Eye Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ first album was in 1976. It’s 2014 and their new  album, Hypnotic Eye is like traveling in time. It’s a similar feeling as going to Wrigley Field or Fenway Park. Its modern enough to know what year it is, but eerie enough to know some shit went down along the way. The thought of music being “timeless” can be tricky, because if music is good and appealing to people over time, it’s just good music, that shouldn’t be a whole different type of classification. It shouldn’t be surprising that people can still enjoy it 20, 30 years later. That’s why some newer artists get irked at the ‘retro’ label. What makes them retro, because you AND your parents can listen to it without one of you shaking your heads at each other? “Ugh, this is so boring!” or “Ugh, they sure don’t make it like they use to.” Point being, Tom Petty has stood the test of time for a reason. Because he’s really good and so is Hypnotic Eye. It jazzes, it blueses, but mostly, it rocks. If spotify isn’t your thing, listen to full album HERE. Officially out now but it sounds like vinyl will be available by the end of the week: Easy
