Malibu. The lush lands of Los Angeles shorefront full of Hollywood stars, crossfit gyms and vegan restaurants. Malibu, ALSO the name of Anderson.Paak’s instant classic album.
A bird with the word carries the song of Anderson.Paak. Vibes of Kendrick‘s To Pimp A Butterfly swirled with D’angelo‘s Black Messiah stretch the 16 track album. Anderson can rap with ease and swagger of a classic west coast OG all while taking turns on the piano, drums and singing with a distinct rasp.
Though Malibu is his third album, it is the first to get Paak the credit he deserves. Already a collaborator with Dr. Dre, Anderson recruited some old and new hip hop mainstays for his own album. Not everyone can get The Game, BJ The Chicago Kid, Schoolboy Q and Talib Kweli on the same album and have it as seamless as Malibu. Each feature is perfectly placed, but Anderson Paak remains the star throughout.
If you didn’t love Anderson.Paak then, “you damn sure love him nowwww”. Listen to Malibu and good luck if you plan on stopping anytime soon.
