Back in October, Courtney Barnett sat down with an acoustic guitar and a couple of her closest musical buddies to record a wonderful live record steeped with a hint of nostalgia, MTV Unplugged Live In Melbourne.
Her band mates Dave Mudie and Bones Sloane joined her for the set, along with beautiful cello and piano accompaniment from Lucy Waldron and Evelyn Ida Morris respectively. The set includes favorites from her catalog, a new tune, Play It On Repeat, and a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen‘s So Long Marianne.
Always known as a top-notch songwriter with her unique and humorous deadpan style, her style has become more thrashing and harder rock n roll. Barnett took this opportunity to slow it all down and highlight the lyrics with new arrangements in a classically styled “unplugged” set.
