AUSTIN LEONARD JONES WRITES, SINGS FROM A “DEAD CALM

By Ian Bremner

The shapeshifting Austin Leonard Jones may write songs at high volumes, but the songs themselves ooze out at uniquely their own pace. Nothing is rushed in a ALJ tune. No topic is avoided either. Songs about lagoons, finding footing in the Australian music scenes while on tour in Perth. Jones is the kind of person who’s brain just sees things differently and has the ability to write stories that get you thinking, dancing, visioning, even when it may not all make sense.

Pedal steel and spanish guitar flutter all over Austin Leonard Jones’ new record giving Dead Calm the feeling of equal parts Hawaiian seashores and dusty beer joints of his Texan home base.
