By Rachel Bennett,

Four killer PNW bands came together last Thursday to kick off the summer and fundraise for Big BLDG Records and Audioasis 5th Annual Bash, happening in July. This show featured Close Encounter and Wolcott’s Instant Pain Annihilator from Seattle, Blackwater Holylight from Portland, and Weeed from Bainbridge Island/Portland.

Each band has their own rock and roll sound, but all complimented one another. Close Encounter started with their dreamy pop and shoegaze sounds, followed by Wolcott’s Instant Pain Annihilator with faster, fuzzier psych-rock. Blackwater Holylight owned the stage as usual, hypnotizing the crowd with sumptuous shredding. Their music is dark and sexy, with a feminine power that introduces a new edge to the psychedelic genre. Weeed, the brother band to Blackwater Holylight, closed out the night with deliciously heavy rock and roll sounds with a psychedelic twist, and the brother/sister bands even did a little collaborative jamming.

Don’t miss future shows from these bands, all playing in and around Seattle again this summer!
