BLACKWATER HOLYLIGHT: PORTLAND’S FEARSOME FOURSOME DROPS SELF-TITLED DEBUT

By Ian Bremner

Portland has a brand new fearsome foursome, BlackWater HolyLight. Though having been in the Northwest music scene in previous projects, vocalist and bassist, Allison Faris sought her turn as fronting a band of all women. She recruited guitarist/vocalist Laura Hopkins, drummer Cat Hoch and synth player Sarah Mckenna to create the new hard hitting garage group.

BlackWater HolyLight’s self-titled debut is a witchboil of garage rock and psychedelic sludge with more than a few gothic undertones. The album, out on RidingEasy Records has moments of classic rock and modern punk. Pulsating drums provide an eerie backdrop for dirty guitars and borderline creepy synths.
