Red and white roses lined each microphone stand. Donning a new suit with prayer hands, angel wings, candles and airplanes, tailor made for the Oh My God tour cycle, Kevin Morby took stage at Seattle’s Showbox with his special brand of artistic intensity. Entirely new songs for the first hour or so, Morby’s live show is a unique blend of poetry, rock n roll and performance art. Each new Kevin Morby record lives in it’s own individual universe and it’s corresponding live show is a fully immersive experience that builds on to that world.
Sam Cohen, who co-produced Oh My God along with Morby opened the show with his own band, then returned to stage for double duty as guitarist and backup vocalist for the OMG Band.
For an album built around God and themes of weather, it was fitting that Kevin Morby was in town playing songs inside of a hallowed Seattle venue as a majestic double rainbow was right outside it’s doors.
