FATHER JOHN MISTY RELEASES LIVE ALBUM, “OFF-KEY IN HAMBURGFOR COVID-19 RELIEF FUND

On Friday March 20th, Bandcamp waived all of its user fees to allow all revenues from music purchases to go directly to the artists in response to the economic struggles many of them are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of our favorite artists rely solely on touring and nightly merchandise sales and with all tours and events “postponed” or cancelled for the foreseeable future, all income streams have come to a screeching halt.

Josh Tillman has done well for himself over the years since Father John Misty has climbed from the obscure indie band to full blown indie star. He is using his platform to release a live record where 100% of the proceeds go to a COVID-19 relief fund organized by Musicares.

Off-Key In Hamburg is a 20 song set recorded live at Elbphilharmonieon on August 8, 2019 in Hamburg Germany. Josh Tillman, band, and the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt deliver a beautifully complex performance of selections from the entire Father John Misty catalog.

As the full Father John Misty live set contains Tillman strolling across stage, flailing from time to time in dramatic dance chocked full of self-deprecating and crowd engaging banter, his shows have become some of the best live acts going. Underneath the irony and subtly absurd themes of the songs, the songs themselves are impressively heartfelt and soulful. On Off-Key In Hamburg, Tillman takes the opportunity to let the musicians and the music shine brightest.
