Jack Cooper is 1/2 of UK’s mellow indie-band, Ultimate Painting. Though there are some of the same moody similarities to his band, Cooper’s first solo record, Sandgrown is stripped down to an even more mellow pace.
The clean 60’s rock vibes of Ultimate Painting’s last record, Dusk make their way onto Sandgrown, but Cooper takes on more of a singer-songwriter role. Pretty electric guitars dance over simple drum lines throughout the entire 29 minutes giving off a cinematic atmosphere detailing Cooper’s hometown off the English coast. If Blackpool, England is anything like listening to Sandgrown on a “Pier In the Wind,” it’s a lovely place.
