DAN AUERBACH’S NEW BAND, THE ARCS (UPDATED)

By Ian Bremner

Cannot say enough about Yours, Dreamily.

When he is not fronting the Black Keys, Dan Auerbach is constantly working on something. He and Patrick Carney have been pumping out albums since the early 00’s, but since their take off, he has been able to focus on producing other people’s albums as well. Valerie June, Hanni El Khatib, Bombino, Dr John, JEFF The Brotherhood and Lana Del Rey have all tabbed Auerbach as producer for their albums in recent years and he put out a solo record in 2009 titled Keep It Hid.

This time he has a new band, The Arcs who consist of Auerbach, Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss, Nick Movshon, Kenny Vaughan, and Mariachi Flor de Toloache. A female mariachi band accompanies the group as well and when they take their turn as lead vocals on Chains Of Love, the album hits a whole new peak. The album has definitive Spanish flavor, with lots of groovy sound that Auerbach has recently dug into with the new Black Keys album, Turn Blue. The Arcs seem to go even deeper and weirder and the songs blend together into a new soulful experimentation with very positive results.
